Sheila Baker

Hi! I’m a product designer with 20 years of experience and a strong foundation in visual design. I’m passionate about craft, 0-1 product development, and driving initiatives that help communities thrive.

I started my career as a Digital Art Director, consulting with agencies like AKQA, R/GA and Huge, and working with brands in California and New York. Along the way, I spent a year in Cupertino with Apple working on the App Store and took on illustration projects for brands like The New York Times and LG. Those years in agencies and tech taught me discipline, work ethic, and a commitment to high-quality design.

After a decade, I pivoted to UX, joining Atlas Obscura as a Product Designer, where I built tools for a quirky travel community. I then moved to Etsy, where I’ve worked on Growth and Platform work, designing features like Star Seller and Make an Offer. Most recently, I stepped into a Product Design Manager role before returning to an IC role as a Staff Product Designer leading Seller Services. Currently, I’m leading a redesign of the seller tools platform to support the next phase of Etsy’s growth.

Now based in the Bay Area, I spend weekends biking and visiting farmers' markets with my husband and two daughters. I’m a big fan of fermenting things in my kitchen, lols, and traveling out of small bags for long periods of time. I have been designing websites since I was 13, spending many a late night perfecting my HTML on Geocities. Design brings me joy, and I feel lucky to do what I do.

Feel free to reach out, I’d love to connect! ☺

2018 – Current

As a Staff Product Designer on Etsy's Seller Services team, I help shape the future of our selling platform, making it easier for millions of creative entrepreneurs to run their shops and connect with buyers. My focus is on growth and platform work, ensuring the experience is usable, consistent, and enjoyable as sellers join, scale, and succeed over time.

As a Design Lead, I support designers in delivering high-quality work, fostering collaboration, and driving impact. I also lead strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening our core platform and helping sellers grow.

Atlas Obscura
Product Designer
2017 – 2018

Product design lead for a travel startup. I led several large-scale projects, including the launch of the AO Weekend Itineraries product, a web store for selling Atlas Obscura’s products, and a complete redesign of our Places engine.

Before moving into product design, I worked as an Art Director for agencies, brands, and startups, focusing on visual storytelling, branding, and creative direction. That background shaped how I approach design today, giving me a strong foundation in craft and strategy.
